An Eid Feast in Stone Town, Zanzibar

Every woman had on at least one article of bedazzled clothing.

Fadhil and his friend pause from jumping into the water to pose for a portrait (this is the most serious they’ve ever looked).

Forodhani is known for its street food stalls.

Smoke billows from grills where skewers of various seafoods were on display.

 From Zanzibar pizzas…

 To fresh lobster…

 From kebabs…

To all you can eat fries…

 There’s shawarma…

 There’s even popcorn!

If you can make your way through the crowds to the front of the queue, you’ll never go hungry.

Children got balloons to celebrate and add even more color to the festivities. Even if you’re not a street food person, Forodhani by night is a must visit when you come to Stone Town. Take in the smells and people watch. Eid night celebrations at Forodhani, however, are truly something to behold.

It seemed like everyone in Stone Town had congregated at Forodhani Gardens for 3 nights, feasting and showing off their Eid clothes. The crowd of joyful families and friends spilled out of the gardens and into the road along the seafront.
